Taryn graduated from Physiotherapy at Curtin University in 2007 and started working for LifeCare as her first job in 2008. During her first year of work she was based on the hospital wards at St John of God Hospital, including the wonderful maternity ward there. During this year, she also completed the 12 month LifeCare Pilates Training Course. It was over this year that she realised that she wanted to spend her career working with women during the childbearing year.
From 2009 until 2010, Taryn completed her Graduate Certificate in Continence & Women’s Health Physiotherapy at Curtin University, while continuing to work full time at LifeCare. Over this time she divided her hours between Clinical Pilates, Hydrotherapy, Outpatient Continence & Women’s Health work and managing the inpatient case load on the maternity ward at St John of God Murdoch.
In 2011 and 2012 Taryn lived to the UK and worked as a Continence & Women’s Health Physiotherapist at the Portland Hospital, a private women’s and children’s hospital in the centre of London. This was an invaluable experience and taught her a great deal about working with women of other cultures.
Taryn returned to Perth, and to LifeCare, at the beginning of 2013 and joined the Management Team in the role of Senior Women’s Health Physiotherapist of Lifecare. She has very much enjoyed setting up a new Women’s Health & Continence service at LifeCare Willetton, new Mother & Baby Pilates and Baby Massage classes, and four week Pregnancy Exercise & Education courses. She has also formed the Lifecare Continence & Women’s Health Special Interest Group and is enjoying organising continuing education in this specialty area for other LifeCare Physiotherapists.
Taryn loves that her job involves assisting women through the childbearing year and treating men and women with pelvic floor dysfunction, she finds it a very rewarding area of physiotherapy. Her real passion is providing ‘pelvic floor friendly' exercise options for women, which is what her masters research project was on. She aims to continue to grow professional links between fitness instructors and Women’s Health Physiotherapists to ensure these goals are reached
Taryn love keeping fit with touch football, yoga, jogging and Pilates; and spends time studying Italian and cooking - especially Jamie Oliver recipes!
Taryn is also a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA), and APA Continence and Women's Health.
