What is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy?
Musculoskeletal (or Manipulative) Physiotherapists are experts in the management of musculoskeletal and particularly spinal-related pain. A Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist uses their expert assessment skills to diagnose the problem and provide holistic and effective, evidence-based treatment.
Treatment provided can include specific manual therapy such as mobilisation or joint manipulation, graded and individualised exercise rehabilitation, and pain neurophysiology education.
When should I see a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist?
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists have significant experience treating conditions such as:
- Low back pain
- Neck pain, including upper cervical pain
- Muscle pain
- Joint pain, such as shoulder, knee and hip conditions.
- Headaches and vertigo (including Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)
- Posture and alignment problems, including symptomatic scoliosis.
Is a GP referral required?
No GP referral is required to see a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.
Can I claim this service on extras on my health insurance?
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy sessions may be claimed on private health insurance depending on your level of cover – please check with your private health insurance provider.
