Why we start to fall apart post 30

I’ve always I’ve always thought it was downhill from 30. My uni lecturers told me that, sitcoms told me that, ads tell me that and until recently, my body told me that…

I was running almost everyday, doing a fair bit of yoga and the weekly netball game, a well rounded exercise regime, I thought… But until 18 months ago I was constantly falling victim to various unexplained aches and pains. The difference in the last 18 months has been the addition of resistance training. I decided to change up my usual cardio-heavy routine and joined the ‘cult’ that is F45. Since adding weight training to my exercise routine, I have noticed that I don’t get those annoying niggles anymore and it’s because my muscles are stronger than they’ve ever been. I am fast approaching 32 and I feel better than I did at 30!

As a Physio, it is easy to see that a lack of strength and mobility is the cause of many problems I see in patients and it seems I’m not the only one. This article from sports scientists and other health professionals gives insights into the many reasons why after 30, we notice changes in the muscles of our body and is quite interesting.

Exercise allows our bodies to get fitter and stronger, ultimately reducing the occurrence of annoying aches, pains, injuries and thus preserving the fountain of youth. My knowledge and expertise in rehabilitation aims to get my patients pain free but also have the strength, reassurance and empowerment to get stronger and keep moving.
