Pregnancy and Physiotherapy
Authored by Laura Cruz - Physiotherapist.
During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes many changes.
Pregnancy hormones can cause increased laxity in the ligaments around the body, potentially reducing the support in the joints. In addition, as the baby grows, the body has to cope with the added strain on the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
As a result, pregnancy can come hand in hand with several issues. Physiotherapy can help you with:
- Back pain
- Pelvic girdle pain (pain around the hip and pelvis)
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (numbness, tingling or pain in the hands)
- Rectus Abdominis Diastisis (separation of the abdominal muscles)
- Pelvic floor issues (causing impairments in bladder and bowel function as well as organ prolapse)
These are just to name a few!
