Dr Ian Gillam

Exercise Physiologist

Ian is a an ESSA accredited exercise physiologist (AEP), a Level 2 sports scientist (ASpS2) and a Clinical and Sports Nutritionist with over 20 years experience in large multidisciplinary medical and health clinics in Melbourne. He provides clinical exercise physiology and sports and clinical nutrition services to individuals with a wide range of chronic conditions, through to elite athletes seeking advice on how to improve their sports performance or those with fatigue related conditions.

Ian has a special interest in assisting clients with cardio-metabolic conditions, optimising body composition, chronic fatigue and wellness programs.

Ian was most recently the sports nutritionist and sports science consultant to the Drapac Professional Cycling team, AFL Melbourne Demons Football Club, Tennis Australia’s National High Performance Academy, Senior Lecturer at RMIT University for 11 years, Victorian Institute of Sport and has he also provided sports science services to some of Australia’s elite skiers over many years. He is currently the sports scientist and nutritionist for the current world champion schoolboy Scotch College Rowing team in Melbourne. This centre provided multidisciplinary sports science and nutrition consulting to a wide range of high performance athletes from the Victorian and Australian Institute of Sport.

Ian was recently recognised by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (REESA) as one of the “Top 25 Influencers in Exercise and Sports Science in Australia over the past 25 years” and he is a nationally awarded applied sports science and nutrition researcher. He is Fellow of Sports Medicine Australia (FSMA) and a Fellow of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSAF). He is currently a member of State Council (QLD) for Sports Medicine Australia.

He is keen competitive and recreational snow skier and an active lifesaver at the Sunshine Beach SLSC. He keeps fit by jogging, swimming, cycling, surfing and weight training.
