Running Assessments at Northern Sports Physiotherapy Clinic
What is a running assessment?
A running assessment identifies areas which may need improvement or finds weak links in the kinetic chain before injury can occur. It can also identify the areas where you may be placing excessive load and show you how you can modify this load during your training.
Who can benefit from a Running Assessment?
- First-time runners looking to get into running
- Regular runners frustrated by niggling injuries they can’t get over
- High-level runners looking for that extra 1% performance improvement
What will the assessment involve?
In the session we discuss your injury history, any running concerns or difficulties, and your current goals. We perform a run screening which will assess key areas and identify areas of concern around flexibility or strength.
What areas are assessed during a session?
- General technique
- Body position and lean
- Joint angles
- Arms and trunk rotation
- Foot strike and toe off
- Vertical movement/oscillation
What happens after the assessment?
After your assessment we will provide you with a report which highlights strength deficits and flexibility concerns. If necessary, we make recommendations or suggest modifications to your running technique. We may also provide you with some strengthening or stretching exercises to address specific areas of concern.
An optional follow-up appointment after 1-2 weeks is recommended to review the assessment report and recommendations and to review prescribed exercises or technique modifications. A treatment plan for any injury concerns can also be made at this time.
Is a referral required?
A referral is not required for a running assessment.
Can I claim this service as an extra on my health insurance policy?
