Bio

Lakshmi Varma is titled musculoskeletal physiotherapist with additional qualification in clinical and sports biomechanics. She has over 16 years experience both in Australia and overseas.

Her experience is heavily influenced by her experience of working with the Australian Army for around 11 years which she commenced immediately after completion of her Master of Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal) from the University of Melbourne in 2005. Working with the army not only saw her manage a vast variety of sports and musculoskeletal injuries but also allowed her to develop and pursue her area of interest which is lower-limb injuries, along with getting an insight into injury pattern identification and develop goal specific rehabilitation. She also developed an interest in strength and conditioning and to develop exercise programs working in conjunction with many physical trainers.  In 2017, she completed Master of Clinical and Sports Biomechanics at Liverpool John Moores University (UK) and had the opportunity to work with some English Premier League players and other elite athletes of both national and international caliber over the duration of her time in the UK

Lakshmi enjoys treating all areas, however, has a special interest in injury prevention and running related injuries. Her area of interest is hips and she is currently enrolled for a PhD looking into the surgical outcomes of hip arthroplasties.

She uses various strategies to manage her patients including hands-on physio, exercises, dry-needling, improving biomechanical efficiency and movement control. She places vast importance on patient education and on guiding and empowering the patient to improve self-management. While she has trained extensively in clinical pilates and, she has a special interest in strength and conditioning and has worked with many personal trainers/SAC coaches both in Australia and the UK where she helped to tailor and deliver exercise, rehabilitation programs following injuries and performance improvement.

Personal interests:

Lakshmi is an avid traveler and a sports buff. She loves hiking around the world, dancing, playing cricket when she can, and is an avid Bombers supporter.

Master of Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal – Uni of Melbourne-2005)
