Melissa also completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science in 2011 and a Master of Exercise and Sports Science in 2012, so she has extensive experience in strength and conditioning, return to sport testing and rehabilitation from the junior level right up to the Elite Athlete Pathway. So, you can be assured Mel uses the latest evidence-based techniques to assess and treat your injury. She also uses her sports science knowledge to run clinical exercise classes at our South Yarra clinic.
Melissa was a member of the Australian Para-Alpine ski team and is a 4-time Paralympian. She was Australia’s first female athlete to win an IPC World Championship medal in para-alpine skiing. She also won two bronze medals at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics, has been named the Paralympic Athlete of the Year and Female Para-athlete of the Year at the AIS Awards. She was also awarded the NSWIS Personal Excellence prize for completing a Masters of Physiotherapy alongside her medal success. She now works as a physiotherapist with the Australian Para-Alpine Ski Team and the Australian Women’s Goalball team (the Belles).
Melissa has a special interest in combat sports including BJJ, MMA and Judo, Para-Sport Athletes and Concussion Rehabilitation. She has participated in research on Concussion in Sport and has can rehabilitate concussion in clinic in conjunction with our highly skilled sports doctors to ensure you recover safely.
