Frequently asked questions about Clinical Pilates

What is clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a form of rehabilitation and fitness that focuses on controlled movements, core strength, and body alignment. Supervised by qualified physiotherapists, it’s adapted to meet individual health needs, making it ideal for injury recovery, prevention, and overall well-being.

Who can benefit from clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is beneficial for anyone looking to improve their physical condition, particularly those with specific rehabilitation needs, aiming to prevent injuries, or seeking to enhance overall fitness. It’s especially helpful for managing back pain, joint pain, postural issues, or recovery after childbirth.

How often should I attend clinical Pilates sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on individual goals and needs. After an initial assessment, your physiotherapist will recommend an optimal plan, adjusting sessions as needed to ensure ongoing progress.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is not required to start clinical Pilates with a physiotherapist at Lifecare. If you’re participating in a health management program such as a Chronic Disease Management Plan, please bring any relevant referrals to your first session.

Can I claim clinical Pilates on my health insurance?

Instructor-led Pilates classes are no longer claimable via Private Health Insurance (as of April 2019) If you are interested in classes that use the Pilates reformer bed for rehabilitation and are covered by private health insurance extras, clinical exercise sessions may be of interest.
