Brad Axford – Remedial Massage Therapist

Brad has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement, and is qualified in Remedial and Sports massage as well as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).

Since starting in 1998 Brad has had extensive experience working with local and elite sporting clubs, university teams (national and international) and massage clinics around Melbourne.  Combining his knowledge of health and fitness, Brad uses a variety of treatment techniques, along with a focus on patient education, to achieve the best outcomes for recovery, performance and relief of symptoms.

Remedial massage is effective in treating all manner of sporting and work/stress-related problems where there is associated pain and/or loss of movement.  The use of various deep tissue techniques (e.g. trigger points and myofascial release), together with relevant stretches and exercise, can effectively reduce muscular tension and restore optimum body function.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a very gentle, repetitive form of massage, able to be used in even severe pain areas.  MLD increases the efficiency of the lymphatic system which is responsible for removing excess fluid/swelling, metabolic wastes, bacteria, toxins and foreign cells from body tissues. MLD helps the body heal more quickly from injuries, surgical trauma and chronic conditions, while at the same time, reducing pain and calming the nervous system.

Common conditions that can be treated with MLD are:

Pre/post-surgical swelling and wound healing.
Muscle and ligament tears.
Tendonitis.
Neck pain / whiplash.
Skin conditions -> acne, rosacea.
Ear, nose and throat conditions - (e.g. tinnitus, sinusitis)
Inflammation and fluid retention.

Brad has played with Australian University Team, competing in the World University Games from 2003 to 2007, Team Melbourne in the National University Games from 2002 to 2006, and was Xavier Athletics Club Therapist from 2006 to 2007.

Brad follows the Hawthorn Football Club, and enjoys playing guitar and tennis, surfing, competing in triathlons, camping and the occasional movie.
