Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No GP referral is required to see a physio.

However, if you are referred on a Chronic Disease Management Program (previously known as Enhanced Primary Care) this referral will need to be brought to your initial appointment.

Do I need a referral to see a Lifecare sports and exercise medicine physician?

No referral is required to see a sport and exercise medicine physician, however with a GP referral you will get a greater Medicare rebate. If you have any further questions regarding cost of treatment, please call your clinic directly.

Does Medicare cover Lifecare services?

If you are referred by your GP on a Chronic Disease Management Program (previously known as Enhanced Primary Care), you may be eligible to claim up to five (5) allied health treatments per year on Medicare.

These treatments are specified by your GP and must be directly related to your condition.

Medicare also contributes to fees for consultations with Sports Physicians.

Does private health insurance cover my treatment?

Depending on the details of your policy, you might be able to receive a rebate from your private health insurance on your treatment.

Our practices have HICAPS which lets you claim your health fund rebate at the clinic on the spot, leaving only the gap to pay. Please bring your health fund card with you to all of your appointments.

What are the terms for payment and cancellation?

Payment is required at the time of your booking. If you need to cancel your appointment, our team asks that you provide adequate notice (at least 24 hours if possible). Please check the appointment cancellation policy at your center as there may be fees associated with missed appointments, no-shows and late cancellations.

How long does an appointment take?

This varies case-by-case. It will depend on the services you are receiving and your personal requirements. Please speak to your nearest clinic about the service you require and the duration that will best support your care.

What do I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any referral letters and relevant test results such as x-rays. This will help our team make your session as personalised and best-informed as possible.

What should I wear to my physiotherapy consultation?

While each service is unique to your care, we generally recommend loose, comfortable clothing that will not restrict movement. A pair of shorts is recommended for lower limb treatments. If you'd like more specific details, please confirm what you should wear with your practitioner before your appointment.

Can I book online?

Absolutely! Find your nearest clinic to make an online booking directly with the centre that best suits your service and location preferences.
