Mark Opar

Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)

Mark completed his Physiotherapy degree at La Trobe University in 2009 and was awarded honours by research, investigating the reliability of a number of lumbo-pelvic stability tests. Since graduating Mark has worked at Lifecare Physiotherapy at the Essendon clinic.

Prior to completing his Physiotherapy studies he also graduated from RMIT with an Applied Science Degree in Human Movement. Combining these two degrees allows Mark to develop comprehensive plans for those looking to return to physical activity following an injury.

Mark has also been involved in the elite underage Victorian football competition, the TAC Cup, since 2003 and has worked at the Calder Cannons and Northern Knights, that have both produced numerous players drafted into the AFL. Mark has held a number of position during this time including head fitness advisor and rehab coordinator that involved managing a number of staff under him and the development of rehabilitation, strength and conditioning programs and comprehensive athlete monitoring. He is able to apply this knowledge into his clinical work with an awareness of the importance of managing training to allow athletes to continue to compete during important competition periods or to participate in specific goals identified by individual patients.

Mark’s involvement in football has led to a particular interest in groin pain in athletes, often referred to as osteitis pubis. He has combined this with his research interests and is completing further study into this poorly understood area. His research is looking at making a more specific diagnosis that allows a more targeted management and treatment protocol. This research has led him to network and discuss this injury with some of the leading clinicians and researchers in the groin and hip injury both in Australia and internationally. Mark applies this knowledge in conjunction with his research to provide the highest quality management of hip and groin injuries.

Before our move to Mt Alexander Rd, Moonee Ponds Mark practised at Rose St Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy, Essendon.
